How Zoos Have Changed Over Time
Zoos have changed a lot over time. For the better of course! First lets go back to the basics, the history of zoos.
There are many reasons that zoos opened through out the world, Recreation, Education, Research, Conservation, Urban, Open Range Zoos, Safari Parks, Animal Theme Parks, Roadside Zoos, Rescues and Sanctuaries, Petting Zoos and Specialized Zoos. Some zoos were opened for science, access to nature, for control of the wild and just for the pleasure of it.
Zoos, back in the old days, used to be horrible places where animals were kept for human enjoyment. The animals were shoved in cages that were only just big enough to fit them. The cages had bars all round them and a cold concrete floor. There were only a few plants to remind the animals of the habitat they used to live in. They were so stressed and just pace up and down in the cage.
Zoos now, however, are much better. The zoos give the animals big and wide enclosures that have places to rest, play and hide in. The enclosures are made to match the habitats the animals come from. The zookeepers hide the animals food so the animal can practice their hunting skills and not get bored easily. They keep the animals busy by giving them enrichment activities through out the day, such as hiding the food or giving them things to find.
